It’s week 1 of the One Room Challenge! See what our plans are for this farmhouse dining room makeover!

I am so stinkin’ excited to be participating in the One Room Challenge for our farmhouse dining room makeover! If you’re new to the One Room Challenge, the idea is that I’ll transform a room in my home over the course of only SIX WEEKS, all while documenting it here on the blog. The ORC is hosted twice a year by Linda, from Calling it Home, and tons of other bloggers participate by linking up and sharing their own room progress.

A month and a half may sound like a lot of time but it goes by quickly and there are ALWAYS speed bumps a long the way. But I am up for the challenge! With all of that said, here is the room I will be making over…

The DINING ROOM!

Umm…where shall we start? There’s the mismatched chairs, the homeschool whiteboard and chalkboard, the giant black buffet in the nook with all of the “stuff” laying out, the ceiling fan (what?), and my favorite, the floral chair and trellis rug that clash. Not pretty, folks, not pretty. Most of the items in this space were roadside finds or things purchased a long time ago when I thought I knew how to decorate. Good times.

BUT, I have a chance to redeem myself. A chance to make this room into a gorgeous space worthy of our family dinners. A chance to let that bay window shine. I’ve been dreaming of making this space over for a long time now, and I’m so exited that the time has come! So let’s get to the vision.

I give you my Farmhouse Dining Room design plan!

First, let’s start with the shiplap walls. I will be adding shiplap to all of the walls with the exception of one feature wall, which will be outfitted in gorgeous distressed brick. The walls will be painted in my all time favorite white, Alabaster, from Sherwin-Williams. It’s the perfect, creamy white without running too yellow.

Let’s talk about furniture. I’ll be DIYing a beautiful, X-base rustic table. I’ve chosen simple, white slipcovered chairs for seating. They let the gorgeous wood table shine while being easy to throw into the washer for quick cleanups. This room doubles as our office and homeschool room, so we need a place to store our materials. That’s where the rolling wood shelving unit comes in. Supplies can be stored within quick reach in pretty baskets and bins. Another DIY I’ll be tackling is a coffee bar.

The most exciting feature to the room has got to be the light fixture. I can’t wait to replace that awful ceiling fan with this beauty. She will be the true star of the space.

And what space would be complete without accessories to bring in beautiful texture, color, and natural elements? I’ve chosen a gorgeous round, braided jute rug for the floor. I’m not 100% sold on which decor will make it into the space yet, so I’ll keep you updated when those details become more solid. I do know that I will definitely incorporate some pretty plants.

So with the pretty part out of the way, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Here is a list of the plans for the farmhouse dining room makeover:

There will certainly be a few surprises in the mix (I can’t spoil all the fun!), so stay tuned for those.

I’m so thrilled and honored to be partnering with these amazing brands to bring my vision to life. Wow, that was a ton of info to throw at you. I can’t wait to get started on all of these DIYs. I’ve had decor arriving on my doorstep every day for the past two weeks. It feels like Christmas! Come back next Thursday for an update of the space. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

sarah
